CPD Courses vs Ofqual Qualifications in Aesthetics

One area that often causes confusion for new practitioners is the difference between CPD certified training and Ofqual regulated qualifications.

CPD (Continuing Professional Development) courses are currently widely used throughout the aesthetics industry and many practitioners have successfully trained and insured using accredited CPD certificates.

Ofqual qualifications, on the other hand, are regulated qualifications that sit within the UK’s formal education framework and are generally delivered over a longer period with more extensive assessment requirements.

There has been ongoing discussion within the aesthetics industry regarding future regulation and whether practitioners may eventually be required to hold higher level regulated qualifications rather than relying solely on CPD certification. However, at the time of writing, CPD certificates remain widely accepted across much of the industry.

It is important to understand that training requirements can vary between insurance providers. Some insurers may accept CPD accredited training pathways, whilst others may require specific prerequisite qualifications before providing cover.
